2019 Ranger Review

To the delight of many truck buyers, the 2019 Ford Ranger, an incredibly popular compact pickup truck, has been recently rebooted and reintroduced to the U.S. market for 2019. It comes with no-fuss features and a potent powertrain that boasts incredible payload and towing capacities.

Drivers in West Chester, Glen Mills, and Malvern can learn more about the 2019 Ford Ranger with Fred Beans Ford of West Chester's in-depth 2019 Ranger review.

Performance

The Ranger comes with a turbocharged 2.3L 4-cylinder engine that produces 270 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. This motor is engineered with a twin-scroll turbocharger for more responsive power and higher torque, yielding 270 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque.

That's more than the power output of most of its rivals. With seamless power and swift acceleration, the Ranger has exciting driving dynamics and plenty of capability for tough jobs. The standard 10-speed automatic transmission moves through shifts precisely and smoothly, never missing the appropriate gear.

Rear-wheel drive is standard for the Ranger, and all-wheel drive is optional. The direct steering and composed ride make the Ranger more comfortable to drive than some other trucks. It readily absorbs road imperfections and cancels out the wind and engine noises at high speed. Properly equipped, the Ranger can tow up to 7,500 pounds and haul 1,860 pounds, depending on the configuration. It can also tackle off-road trails with confidence, thanks to its off-road tuned suspension, a locking rear differential, skid plates, a terrain management system, off-road tires, and crawl control.

On top of all of that, the Ranger is designed to save you money on fuel! With the help of an efficient direct injection system and Auto Start-Stop technology, you can get an EPA-estimated 21 MPG city/26 MPG highway.

Functional Design

The 2019 Ranger not only looks rugged and capable-it was designed to take on any terrain. This design starts with a high-strength steel frame. The front and rear steel bumpers and two front tow hooks are mounted directly to this frame for superior durability.

Short overhangs mean better approach and departure angles when you're off-roading. To be precise, the 4x4 models have an approach angle of 28.7 degrees and a departure angle of 25.4 degrees. Plus, the minimum ground clearance is 8.9 inches on 4x4 Ranger models, making it easy to take on small obstacles in your path.

For even more off-roading capability, add the Fx4 Off-Road Package. You'll get all-terrain tires for improved traction. Plus, an exposed front steel bash plate and heavy-duty skid plates protect the bottom of your truck all the way from the radiator to the fuel tank.

Interior

The Ranger has multiple configurations to accommodate your needs. The standard configuration can seat four people, though some models can fit five adults in the front and rear seats. Ample leg- and headroom make the drive comfortable for tall passengers, and entering and exiting is easy and simple. All seats are well-bolstered and provide plenty of long-distance comfort. Upgrades like premium cloth, vinyl, and leather upholstery or power-adjustable seating are available to enhance the comfort.

The Ranger's available configurations consist of a 4-person SuperCab short cab with a 6-foot bed, and an extended 5-person SuperCrew cab with a 5-foot bed. The payload ranges from 1,560 to 1,860 pounds, so choosing the right bed configuration is about necessary passenger and hauling needs.

Technology

The base model of the Ranger comes with a SYNC® infotainment system and a 4.2-inch display screen with voice commands and an intuitive interface. This can be upgraded to a SYNC® 3 advanced infotainment system with a large, crisp 8-inch touchscreen, which is regarded as one of the most straightforward and user-friendly systems available. Optional technology additions for entertainment and convenience include a power outlet, dual-zone climate control, push-button start, remote start, HD Radio™, satellite radio, navigation, and a Bang & Olufsen® 10-speaker sound system.

A rearview camera, Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking, and Blind Spot Information System (BLIS®) are standard safety systems for the Ranger. The MyKey® feature, which allows you to set parameters for the sound volume and speed limit for young or inexperienced drivers, is also included.

In addition, an available suite of safety technologies will help prevent collisions along the way. When you choose a 2019 Ranger equipped with Ford Co-Pilot 360™-standard on Ranger XLT and LARIAT, or optional on Ranger XL-you'll get driver-assistive features such as:

  • Lane-Keeping System to alert you if you drift from your lane
  • BLIS® (Blind Spot Information System) with trailer coverage to help you confidently change lanes
  • Adaptive Cruise Control that keeps you at a set distance from the vehicle ahead
